What are Primary Applications and Application Services?

The primary application for allopathic and osteopathic medical schools is usually submitted through a centralized application service and consists of biographical and academic information, as well as a personal statement and descriptions of your co-curricular experiences. Applications may begin submitting applications around June 1, but you should begin filling out your application in early May.  Medical schools employ a rolling admission process, so it is very important that your application be submitted as early as possible. Do not wait for deadlines!

American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS)

AMCAS is the centralized application processing service for allopathic medical schools. Most medical schools use AMCAS as the primary application method. Regardless of the number of medical schools to which you apply, you submit just one online application to AMCAS. Applicants must complete these applications.

American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Service (AACOMAS)

AACOMAS is a non-profit centralized application service for applicants to US osteopathic medical schools.  Applicants must complete these applications online. Currently all osteopathic medical schools participate in AACOMAS.

Texas Medical and Dental School Application Service (TMDSAS)

TMDSAS is a non-profit centralized application service for applicants to medical and dental schools in Texas (with the exception of Baylor College of Medicine, which participates in AMCAS).  Applicants may complete the application online.
