Allied Health Professions

According to the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (ASAHP), allied health professionals comprise nearly 60% of the healthcare workforce. They are involved with the delivery of health or related services pertaining to the identification, evaluation and prevention of diseases and disorders; dietary and nutrition services; and rehabilitation and health systems management.

Allied health professionals include dental hygienists, emergency medical personnel, exercise science professionals, health information technologists, health educators and counselors, specialists in cancer diagnosis and treatment, pharmacy personnel and medical assistants.

Because the requirements for each profession vary significantly, a great place to start exploring different career paths is ExploreHealthCareers.org and EduMed.org.
