In-Person Pre-Health Advising Appointments

Starting next week, I’ll be in the office on the Foggy Bottom campus 3 days per week (Wed - Fri). You can book in-person advising appointments for those days. You must wear a mask (otherwise I’ll avoid you like Ron Swanson avoids working for the government!)

Virtual appointments are still available for Mon & Tues.

Alzheimer’s Association New Youth Initiative

We have been working with local area students who wanted to create a club at their school, so we're launching a Youth Initiative, which will be open to all local area students and beyond. Most are very interested in medicine and research. The goal is to bring together students interested in learning more about the Alzheimer's Association to provide education, inspiration, volunteer opportunities and support to students with the hope that one of these students may be the person who finds a cure for this disease.

Any current or incoming students that might be interested in attending our upcoming educational programs, starting Sunday September 19th at 4 PM, please have them complete the interest survey. A flyer with our first program is attached. We will also be offering students the opportunity to volunteer at one of our upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer's (we have 7 in the area and 2 are metro accessible for GWU students!)

Tips to Finding a DO to Shadow

Many colleges of osteopathic medicine encourage applicants to experience osteopathic medicine. The best way to experience osteopathic medicine is to shadow or speak directly with a DO!

Unsure how to get started? We put together some tips to help you find a DO to shadow. In addition to shadowing in-person, you can also ask about alternative ways to shadow during this time, including through video chat or other online resources.

Volunteering Guide for Healthcare Students

As a student, you may feel too busy and stressed to add volunteerism to your workload. Before ruling it out, though, remember volunteerism has been shown to lower stress and improve mental health. It can also increase your confidence in your abilities—and confidence is often a key player in success in both work and school.

In this piece, we discuss what should factor into your volunteerism choices, how to help ensure your volunteerism will benefit both yourself and others, and provide a list of volunteer opportunities.
